Remember when we kept hearing that Obama was going to repair our relationships with Muslim countries?

Some may remain closed for longer than a day. Remember when we kept hearing that Obama was going to repair our relationships with Muslim countries? “Threat closes US embassies in Muslim world for day,” by Bradley Klapper for the Associated Press, August 2:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is shuttering its embassies and consulates throughout the Muslim world on Sunday after receiving an unspecified threat, officials said.State Department officials said Thursday that they were taking action out of an “abundance of caution.”

Spokeswoman Marie Harf cited information indicating a threat to U.S. facilities overseas and said some diplomatic facilities may stay closed for more than a day.

Other U.S. officials said the threat was in the Muslim world, where Sunday is a workday. American diplomatic missions in Europe, Latin America and many other places are closed on Sunday.

Those officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

The State Department issued a major warning last year informing American diplomatic facilities across the Muslim world about potential violence connected to the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Dozens of American installations were besieged by protest over an anti-Islam video made by an American resident.

In Benghazi, Libya, the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed when militants assaulted a diplomatic post. The administration no longer says that attack was related to the demonstrations.

Because it was a lie, a lie designed to abet the curtailing of our freedom of speech, in the first place.

Jerusalem Will Remain Israel’s Capital — Period

Whatever the final borders with a future Palestinian state, Jerusalem will remain Israel’s capital. US policy should recognize this.

JPOST EDITORIAL

In the summer of 2000, Ari and Naomi Zivotofsky and their family performed the ultimate Zionist act and made aliya from the US.

Two years later their son Menachem Binyamin was born at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, located in a part of Jerusalem inside the Green Line.

Congress had just passed a law with a provision titled “United States Policy With Respect to Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel” that says that a US citizen born in Jerusalem may request his or her birthplace to be listed as Israel.

Until then, amazingly, the uncontested official US policy, as dictated by the State Department, had been that only “Jerusalem” could be listed in a Consular Report of Birth Abroad and in passports for US citizens born in the city.

Since the 1947 UN Partition Resolution placed Jerusalem under international control, consecutive US presidents – both Democratic and Republican – have declined to take a position on the status of the city. The parts of Jerusalem that fell under Israeli control in the wake of the War of Independence and the drawing of the 1949 Armistice Lines were never recognized by the US as part of Israeli sovereignty. (The same is true about the parts of Jerusalem that came under Israeli control as a result of the Six Day War.) Now, after Congress acted, the Zivotofskys hoped that Menachem, their only child born in Israel, could have that fact reflected proudly on his passport.

But it was not to be.

After more than a decade of legal struggles, a US federal appeals court ruled this week that Congress’s provision was unconstitutional. Menachem and about 50,000 other American citizens born in Jerusalem are in the same situation.

The US, Israel’s best and most important ally, stubbornly insists on maintaining an anachronistic foreign policy that relates to Israel as if the year were 1947. That policy must change.

While the status of territories that fell into Israel’s hands during the Six Day War remains “disputed” pending a final peace agreement with the Palestinians, there is a broad consensus that the 1949 Armistice Line, or Green Line, includes integral parts of Israel that will remain a part of the Jewish state in any agreement with Israel.

Ostensibly, the State Department’s position on Jerusalem – as presented to the US federal appeals court – is that the “reversal of US policy” could “provoke uproar throughout the Arab and Muslim world and seriously damage our relations.”

But caving in to extremists in the Arab and Muslim world only encourages ever-more extremist behavior by proving that intimidation works.

Caving in to the extremists also strengthens the Palestinian narrative that views Israel as the aggressor in the War of Independence. In reality, what sparked the fighting that led to Israel’s control over western Jerusalem was a radicalized Palestinian leadership – backed by bellicose Arab nations – who rejected the 1947 UN Partition Plan that would have given them a Palestinian state. Instead, the Palestinians made the historic mistake of attempting to snuff out the fledgling Jewish state at birth. Thankfully, they failed. But they refuse to face the consequences of their acts of violence. So does the US.

The US position is also disconnected from the realities on the ground. An aggressive reporter occasionally reveals how untenable the position is by pushing White House officials to say which city the US considers to be Israel’s capital. When that happened last summer, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney simply repeated again and again, “Our policy has not changed.” A similar standoff occurred in March 2012 when State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland refused to state that Jerusalem was a part of Israel.

Just walking around Jerusalem, a city that has flourished and grown beyond recognition for both Jews and Arabs during the years it has been under Israel’s control, one is struck by the absurdity of the US’s position.

The time has come for President Barack Obama to amend America’s policy. Whatever the final borders with a future Palestinian state, Jerusalem will remain Israel’s capital. US policy should recognize this, as well as the plain fact that Jerusalem is the most important and holiest city for Jews.

A historic injustice will be righted when young Menachem Zivotofsky and tens of thousands of others will be able to proudly display their Israeliness in a passport issued by a country that has done more than any other to ensure Israel’s security and prosperity.

Obama’s new Amnesty for Illegal Aliens bill – 5,000 more Afghans per year

BNI:

I wonder how many Taliban will be among them? Of course, you realize that it’s the American taxpayer who will be forced to foot the bill for all of them as we have been doing for tens of thousands of other 3rd world unskilled illiterates from Somalia and other Muslim countries.

WND  (Aaron Klein) The text of the Senate’s immigration-reform bill contains a small section that increases by more than threefold the number of Afghans eligible for immigration to the U.S. under a special asylum program, WND has learned.

The legislation also further expands the previously strict qualifications for immigration from Afghanistan and allows for more family members to join admitted asylum seekers.

Page 450 of the 1,190 page immigration bill amends what is known as the 2009 Afghan Special Immigrant Visa Program. That program, set to expire this year, is now extended to 2018 by the immigration bill.

The special program previously allotted up to 1,500 visas for Afghans each year. The new immigration bill increases the visa quota to up to 5,000 Afghans per year, a difference detected by reading both the bill and the previous program.

The strict requirements of the previous program granted visas only to Afghan nationals employed by or on behalf of the U.S. government in Afghanistan on or after Oct. 7, 2001, for a period of one year or more. All applicants were required to demonstrate that they faced security threats due to their employment with the U.S.

The immigration bill now extends the qualifications beyond only those employed by the U.S. government. The new legislation admits Afghans who worked for media or non-governmental organizations headquartered in the U.S.

Also now qualified are Afghans employed by “an organization or entity closely associated with the United States mission in Afghanistan that has received United States Government funding through an official and documented contract, award, grant, or cooperative agreement.” The former program granted visas to the spouses of those who qualified for asylum as well as to unmarried children younger than age 21. The new bill now expands the asylum to siblings and parents.

The information on the Afghan visa program follows increased news media scrutiny on terrorists and extremists admitted into the U.S. under similar programs.

Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the Chechen brothers suspected of carrying out the April 15 Boston Marathon bombing, immigrated to the U.S. as refugees in 2002. The Tsarnaev brothers are not the only controversial Chechen refugees admitted to the U.S.

WND previously reported that with the help of President Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser, Zbigniew Brzezinski, a high-ranking Chechen separatist leader accused of terrorism by Russia was granted political asylum in the U.S. and lived for a period of time in Boston.

Ilyas Akhmadov has been on Russia’s most-wanted list, charged with organizing terrorist training camps and armed insurgent actions. Despite Russian objections, Akhmadov now lives in Washington, D.C., after the U.S. said it could find no links to terror. Akhmadov was once the deputy to the radical Chechen Islamist leader Shamil Basayev, who was killed in 2006 before being described by ABC News as “one of the most-wanted terrorists in the world.”

The Obama Regime also is considering resettling thousands of refugees who have escaped war-torn Syria in the United States, a development first reported by the Los Angeles Times and later confirmed by the State Department.

According to the Times, the resettlement of the refugees would be “part of an international effort that could bring thousands of Syrians to American cities and towns.” California has historically taken the largest share, but IllinoisFlorida,PennsylvaniaMaryland and Virginia are also popular destinations.

But while he brings these Afghans into the country, Obama is virtually ignoring the pledge we made to bring Iraqi nationals to America who helped the Occupation forces for many years and now are at extreme risk in Iraq because of it.

Ten years after the United States’ invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein and set off a sectarian war that continues to this day, thousands of Iraqis are eligible for resettlement to the U.S. because they risked their lives to help the war effort as interpreters, cultural advisers and other support staff.

But of the legislated allotment of about 25,000 “special immigrant visas” – which offer permanent residency as a reward to Iraqis who worked with the U.S. government – just 4,669 cases have been approved since 2008, and the program is scheduled to end in September.

Advocates for the Iraqi applicants say the resettlement process for such U.S. allies has been shamefully slow and complicated. And the glacial bureaucracy in Washington, Iraqi applicants and their advocates say, can have disastrous consequences in Iraq, where people who worked with Americans receive death threats from Sunni and Shiite Muslim militants who still view them as “enemy collaborators,” even though the U.S. military withdrew from the country 15 months ago. READ MORE
