12 months or Less…

And the plot thickens towards war with Iran.

English: Official portrait of Leon Panetta as ...
Leon Panetta

Leon Panetta, US Secretary of Defense Monday night showered the world with a preview of his Christmas night (by the fire of course) 60 minutes interview on Iran and it’s rapidly growing nuclear program. With sabers rattling on both sides, this is sure to keep stoking the fires and the war drums beating.

CBS News anchor Scott Pelley caught up with Secretary Panetta on his tour last week of Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. On the way home, he boarded the jet nicknamed “The Doomsday Plane.” This is the command post where he and the president would direct a nuclear war. In an interview for “60 Minutes,” we sat down in the compartment where he would execute the commander-in-chief’s orders. Panetta told CBS News that Iran needs only one year to build a nuclear weapon.

Pelley: So that they can develop a weapon even more quickly…

Panetta: On a faster track….

Pelley: Than we believe….

Panetta: That’s correct.

Pelley: If the Israelis decide to launch a military strike to prevent that weapon from being built, what sort of complications does that raise for you?

Panetta: Well, we share the same common concern. The United States does not want Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. That’s a red line for us & that’s a red line, obviously, for the Israelis. If we have to do it we will deal with it.

Pelley: You just said if we have to do it we will come and do it. What is it?

Panetta: If they proceed & we get intelligence that they are proceeding with developing a nuclear weapon, we will take whatever steps necessary to stop it.

Pelley: Including military steps?

Panetta: There are no options off the table

Pelley: A nuclear weapon in Iran is…

Panetta: Unacceptable.

(Panetta also told CBS News that while Iran needs a year or less to assemble a weapon, he has no indication yet that the Iranians have made the decision to go ahead.)Personally, I would like to see the Mossad and Saudi estimates, and the article also leaves out one giant question mark thats included in the video, a statement from Panetta that “that year or less is based on IF they dont have another enrichment program going in a secret location.”

For Iran’s part, the mullahs are going full speed ahead in their quest, yet still found the time to “capture and control” no less than 4 US and Israeli drones, bust a CIA spy ring in Lebanon (credit to a fat man living in a bunker on that one), and another CIA spy sneaking in the country from Afghanistan, they have worked hard to  destabilize Bahrain, assist in the suppression of the Syrians, supply Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and still if thats not enough to keep them busy, they are well on their way to the record for most people executed in the world this year with a total of just under 700 victims, including several women and children.

With talk of a US/EU blockade in the early new year gaining traction and a possible Israeli strike, grouped with 2 bills that just passed the house, and the game changing biggie, the 2012Defense Authorization not being blocked the administration, it appears President Obama just might act.

Sounds like someone just blew a hole in Ron Paul’s theory. Oops.

Revolving Door Terrorism

Aftermath of Palestinian Terrorism

Israel released 550 Palestinian security prisoners Sunday in the second and final phase of the Gilad Schalit exchange deal with Hamas. Most were imprisoned for throwing Molotov cocktails and stones, and some 400 have finished two-thirds of their sentences. Not all were as innocent though Salah Hamouri, who plotted to murder Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, and Taltal Na’asan, a senior Force 17 member who confessed to taking part in shooting attacks and planning to plant bombs near Ramallah are on the list of released prisoners. Also on the list was Darwis Dadar, a Tanzim terrorist who participated in a Jerusalem suicide bombing that claimed the lives of three Israelis in 2002.

The 477 prisoners freed in the first round included dozens of militants serving life sentences for involvement in bus bombings and other deadly attacks on Israeli civilians that killed hundreds. Their release set off celebrations in the Palestinian territories, particularly Hamas’ Gaza stronghold. Some of the chestnuts released were Abu Sharakh, One of the organizers of the attack on bus No. 37 in Haifa in 2002 and other attacks (17 killed, more than 50 wounded), al-Hashlimun, Involved in the planning of the double attack in Beersheba in 2004 (17 killed), which killed 16 people., al-Nasser-Yataima, convicted of planning the Passover massacre (2002) in which 30 civilians were killed and 140 were wounded, and Anajas, Walid Abd al-Aziz Abd al-Hadi, took part in the execution of the Café Moment bombing in 2002 (11 killed, 54 wounded – 11 of them seriously), the Hebrew University bombing in 2002 (9 killed, more than 100 injured) and the Rishon LeZion bombing in 2002 (16 killed, more than 60 injured – 20 of them seriously). Originally sentenced to 26 consecutive life sentences. Badran, Husam Atif Al the former head of Hamas’ military wing in the West Bank, who orchestrated the the 2001 Dolphinarium discotheque suicide bombing, 2001 Sbarro restaurant suicide bombing (15 killed, more than 100 injured) and in the 2002 Passover massacre. The military wing of Hamas threatened Sunday evening to kidnap more soldiers to release the rest of the Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails. “This achievement will not be the end of the story… We will continue to work for the prisoners at whatever cost,” said spokesman for the military wing of Hamas, Abu Ovadia.

At what point does Israel declare enough is enough and institute the death penalty for terrorism?
