Shortly after the leader of Iran’s Lebanese proxy Hezbollah said that Hamas in Gaza were firing Iranian-made Fajr-5 artillery rockets on Israeli targets, Iran moved to distance itself from the implication that it is involved with supplying Hamas with weapons.
In a speech on Friday, Hassan Nasrallah said the launch of the Iranian-made rockets was a major development in Hamas’s conflict with Israel.
The chairman of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said “the resistance” – Hamas – does not need Iranian rockets.
In a message broadcast for an Arabic speaking audience via its Arabic-language channel al-Alam, Boroujerdi was quoted as saying that while Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has always emphasized that “Iran withholds no assistance to the resistance”, Iran’s support was of a“spiritual nature”.
